  • Adjourn: A motion to adjourn a legislative chamber or a committee, if passed, ends that day's session.
  • administer: The direct application of a controlled substance, whether by injection, inhalation, ingestion, or any other means, to the body of a patient or research subject by:

  • Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
  • agent: An authorized person who acts on behalf of or at the direction of a manufacturer, distributor, or dispenser. See Alabama Code 20-2-2
  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • board: The Alabama Board of Licensure for Professional Geologists. See Alabama Code 20-2-254
  • board: The Board of Medical Examiners of the State of Alabama. See Alabama Code 20-2-250
  • COLLABORATING PHYSICIAN: A doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy licensed to practice medicine in Alabama who agrees in writing to practice in collaboration with one or more certified registered nurse practitioners or certified nurse midwives in accordance with Title 34, Chapter 21, Article 5, and the rules and regulations adopted by the Board of Medical Examiners and the Board of Nursing.   • CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE: A drug, substance, or immediate precursor in Schedules I through V of Article 2 of this chapter. See Alabama Code 20-2-2
  • Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
  • dispense: To deliver a controlled substance to an ultimate user or research subject by or pursuant to the lawful order of a practitioner, including the prescribing, administering, packaging, labeling, or compounding necessary to prepare the substance for that delivery. See Alabama Code 20-2-2
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.
  • geologist: A person who holds a degree in the geological sciences from an accredited college or university. See Alabama Code 20-2-254
  • GEOLOGIST-IN-TRAINING: A person who holds a degree in the geological sciences from an accredited college or university and who has successfully passed the part of the professional examination covering fundamental or academic geological subjects. See Alabama Code 20-2-254
  • geology: The science dealing with the earth and its history; its constituent rocks, minerals, liquids, gases, and other materials of which it is composed, and the study of the processes responsible for the development and change in the component parts of the earth, for the benefit of mankind. See Alabama Code 20-2-254
  • GOOD MORAL CHARACTER: Character that tends to ensure the faithful discharge of the professional duties of the licensed professional geologist based on truth and adherence to ethical principles. See Alabama Code 20-2-254
  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • Lawsuit: A legal action started by a plaintiff against a defendant based on a complaint that the defendant failed to perform a legal duty, resulting in harm to the plaintiff.
  • license: A certificate issued by the board recognizing the individual named in this certificate as meeting the requirements for licensing under this chapter. See Alabama Code 20-2-254
  • LICENSED PROFESSIONAL GEOLOGIST: A person who holds a license as a professional geologist under this chapter. See Alabama Code 20-2-254
  • opiate: Any substance having an addiction-forming or addiction-sustaining liability similar to morphine or being capable of conversion into a drug having addiction-forming or addiction-sustaining liability. See Alabama Code 20-2-2
  • person: Individual, corporation, government or governmental subdivision or agency, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, or association or any other legal entity. See Alabama Code 20-2-2
  • preceding: means next before. See Alabama Code 30-3D-608
  • PUBLIC PRACTICE OF GEOLOGY: The performance of geological service or work, including, but not limited to, consultation, geological investigation, surveys, evaluations, planning, mapping, or review of geological work related to the public practice of geology, or both, in which the performance is related to the public welfare or safeguarding of life, health, property, and the environment except as otherwise specifically provided by this chapter.   • qacsc: A Qualified Alabama Controlled Substances Registration Certificate. See Alabama Code 20-2-250
  • Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
  • specialty: A branch of geology which is recognized as a subdiscipline for purposes of certification after registration as a licensed professional geologist. See Alabama Code 20-2-254
  • state: When applied to a part of the United States, such term includes any state, district, commonwealth, territory, insular possession thereof, and any area subject to the legal authority of the United States of America. See Alabama Code 20-2-2
  • subordinate: A person who assists a licensed professional geologist in the public practice of geology without assuming the responsible charge of work and who is under the direction and supervision of a licensed professional geologist. See Alabama Code 20-2-254
  • Transcript: A written, word-for-word record of what was said, either in a proceeding such as a trial or during some other conversation, as in a transcript of a hearing or oral deposition.
  • UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT: The practice of geology by a licensed professional geologist who willfully performs any act, causes omissions, or makes any assertions or representations which are fraudulent, deceitful, or misleading, or which in any manner whatsoever discredits or tends to discredit the profession of geology. See Alabama Code 20-2-254
  • year: means a calendar year; but, whenever the word "year" is used in reference to any appropriations for the payment of money out of the treasury, it shall mean fiscal year. See Alabama Code 30-3D-608
