A. The commission may establish a volunteer organization known as the Arizona game and fish department reserve and prescribe the qualifications for membership. Members of the reserve serve at the pleasure of the director who has general supervision and control of all reserve activities.

  • Department: means the Arizona game and fish department. See Arizona Laws 17-101
  • Peace officers: means sheriffs of counties, constables, marshals, policemen of cities and towns, commissioned personnel of the department of public safety, personnel who are employed by the state department of corrections and the department of juvenile corrections and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, peace officers who are appointed by a multicounty water conservation district and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, police officers who are appointed by community college district governing boards and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, police officers who are appointed by the Arizona board of regents and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, police officers who are appointed by the governing body of a public airport pursuant to section 28-8426 and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, peace officers who are appointed by a private postsecondary institution pursuant to section 15-1897 and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board and special agents from the office of the attorney general, or of a county attorney, and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board.   • Wildlife: means all wild mammals, wild birds and the nests or eggs thereof, reptiles, amphibians, mollusks, crustaceans and fish, including their eggs or spawn. See Arizona Laws 17-101

B. The reserve shall assist the department as an auxiliary body and perform such duties in the areas of education, conservation and enforcement as the commission prescribes by rule or regulation. The director may designate qualified reservists as peace officers in the same manner and with the same powers as game rangers and wildlife managers. Such reservists are not entitled to participate in the public safety personnel retirement system pursuant to Title 38, Chapter 5, Article 4.

C. Members of the reserve are not eligible to receive compensation but are eligible for reimbursement of expenses pursuant to Title 38, Chapter 4, Article 2. Members of the reserve are deemed to be employees of this state for the purpose of coverage under Arizona workers’ compensation pursuant to Title 23, Chapter 6.
