Terms Used In Arizona Laws 35-601

  • Bankruptcy: Refers to statutes and judicial proceedings involving persons or businesses that cannot pay their debts and seek the assistance of the court in getting a fresh start. Under the protection of the bankruptcy court, debtors may discharge their debts, perhaps by paying a portion of each debt. Bankruptcy judges preside over these proceedings.
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
  • United States: includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Arizona Laws 1-215

1. "Federal bankruptcy statute" means the act of Congress entitled, "An act to establish a uniform system of bankruptcy throughout the United States," approved July 1, 1898, as amended or supplemented.

2. "Taxing district" means a "taxing district" as defined in the federal bankruptcy statute.
