The head lamp or head lamps upon every motorcycle may be of the single-beam or multiple-beam type but, in either event, shall comply with the requirements and limitations as follows: (1) Every such head lamp on a motorcycle shall be of sufficient intensity to reveal a person or vehicle at a distance of not less than one hundred feet when the motorcycle is operated at any speed less than twenty-five miles per hour and at a distance of not less than two hundred feet when the motorcycle is operated at a speed of twenty-five or more miles per hour, and at a distance of not less than three hundred feet when the motorcycle is operated at a speed of thirty-five or more miles per hour. (2) If the motorcycle is equipped with a multiple-beam head lamp or head lamps, the upper beam shall meet the minimum requirements set forth above and shall not exceed the limitations set forth in subsection (a) of § 14-96t and the lowermost beam shall meet the requirements applicable to a lowermost distribution of light as set forth in subsection (b) of said section. (3) If the motorcycle is equipped with a single-beam lamp or lamps, such lamp or lamps shall be so aimed that, when the vehicle is loaded, none of the high-intensity portion of light, at a distance of twenty-five feet ahead, shall project higher than the level of the center of the lamp from which it comes. Failure to have lamps as required by this section shall be an infraction.

Terms Used In Connecticut General Statutes 14-96x

  • Head lamp: means a lighting device affixed to the front of a motor vehicle projecting a high intensity beam which lights the road in front of the vehicle so that it can proceed safely during the hours of darkness. See Connecticut General Statutes 14-1
  • Motorcycle: means (A) an autocycle, as defined in this section, or (B) a motor vehicle, with or without a side car, that has (i) not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, (ii) a saddle or seat which the rider straddles or a platform on which the rider stands, and (iii) handlebars with which the rider controls the movement of the vehicle.   • Person: includes any individual, corporation, limited liability company, association, copartnership, company, firm, business trust or other aggregation of individuals but does not include the state or any political subdivision thereof, unless the context clearly states or requires. See Connecticut General Statutes 14-1
  • Vehicle: includes any device suitable for the conveyance, drawing or other transportation of persons or property, whether operated on wheels, runners, a cushion of air or by any other means. See Connecticut General Statutes 14-1
