Connecticut General Statutes 9-235d – Citizens sixteen or seventeen years of age authorized to serve as election or primary officials. Requirements
(a) Notwithstanding any provision of sections 9-233, 9-235 and 9-258 a United States citizen who is sixteen or seventeen years of age and a bona fide resident of a town may be appointed as (1) an unofficial checker in an election, or (2) a checker, translator, ballot clerk or voting tabulator tender in an election after (A) attending poll worker training, and (B) receiving the written permission of a parent, guardian or the principal of the school that the citizen attends if the citizen is a secondary school student and the citizen is to be appointed to work on a day when such school is in session.
Terms Used In Connecticut General Statutes 9-235d
- Ballot: means paper or other material containing the names of the candidates or a statement of a proposed constitutional amendment or other question or proposition to be voted on. See Connecticut General Statutes 9-1
- Election: means any electors' meeting at which the electors choose public officials by use of voting tabulators or by paper ballots as provided in §. See Connecticut General Statutes 9-1
- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- Voting tabulator: means a machine, including, but not limited to, a device which operates by electronic means, for the registering and recording of votes cast at elections, primaries and referenda. See Connecticut General Statutes 9-1
(b) Notwithstanding any provision of § 9-436 or 9-436a a United States citizen who is sixteen or seventeen years of age and a bona fide resident of a town or political subdivision holding a primary may be appointed as (1) a candidate checker in the primary, or (2) a checker, translator, ballot clerk or voting tabulator tender in a primary after (A) attending poll worker training, and (B) receiving the written permission of a parent, guardian or the principal of the school that the citizen attends if the citizen is a secondary school student and the citizen is to be appointed to work on a day when such school is in session.
