  • Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
  • Joint committee: Committees including membership from both houses of teh legislature. Joint committees are usually established with narrow jurisdictions and normally lack authority to report legislation.
  • Minority leader: See Floor Leaders
     The Joint Committee on Legislative Support Services, hereinafter called the “Joint Committee”, is hereby created and shall be composed of the President and Minority Leader of the Senate and the Speaker and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, all ex officio. Members shall serve without compensation but shall be reimbursed for their reasonable expenses incurred in the performance of their duties under this Act. The Joint Committee on Legislative Support Services shall meet quarterly and at such other times as it determines necessary to perform its functions under this Act. Any action taken by such Joint Committee shall require the affirmative vote of at least 3 of the 4 members. The Joint Committee may appoint, retain, employ and fix the compensation of any necessary professional, technical and secretarial staff. The staff shall not be subject to the Personnel Code, but the Joint Committee shall adopt rules establishing personnel policies, including affirmative action, to assure equality of employment opportunity.
