Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 40 ILCS 5/18-115

  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
  • Beneficiary: A person who is entitled to receive the benefits or proceeds of a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity, or other contract. Source: OCC
  • Surviving spouse: means "widow" or "widower" as the case may be. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.32
  • United States: may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     “Beneficiary”: A surviving spouse or children eligible for an annuity; or, if no eligible surviving spouse or children survives, the person or persons designated by the participant or annuitant in the last written designation on file with the Board; or, if no person so designated survives, or if no designation is on file, the estate of the participant or annuitant. If a special needs trust as described in Section 1396p(d)(4) of Title 42 of the United States Code, as amended from time to time, has been established for a disabled child, then the special needs trust may stand in lieu of the disabled adult child as a beneficiary for the purposes of this Article.
