Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 535/3

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Personal property: All property that is not real property.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
  • United States: may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     The said consent is given and the said jurisdiction ceded upon the express condition that the State of Illinois shall retain a concurrent jurisdiction with the United States in and over the said property so far as that the execution of all civil and criminal processes which may issue under the laws or authority of the State of Illinois shall be allowed thereon on application to the officer of the United States in charge thereof in the same way and manner as if such consent had not been given or jurisdiction ceded, except so far as such processes may affect the real or personal property of the United States.
