  • Case law: The law as laid down in cases that have been decided in the decisions of the courts.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14

     “Law” includes not only enactments but also the case law applicable within this State as determined and declared from time to time by the courts of review of this State and of the United States.
