Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 770 ILCS 60/6

  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
     In no event shall it be necessary to fix or stipulate in any contract a time for the completion or a time for payment in order to obtain a lien under this Act, provided, that the work is done or material furnished within three years from the commencement of said work or the commencement of furnishing said material in the case of work done or material furnished as to residential property; and within 5 years from the commencement of said work or the commencement of furnishing said material in the case of work done or material furnished as to any other type of property. The changes made by Public Act 97-966 are operative from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2024.
