Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 17-1911

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201

Each telegraph company or other corporation operating a telegraph line failing or neglecting to comply with the provisions of Kan. Stat. Ann. § 17-1910 shall be liable to a penalty of ten dollars ($10) for each day of such failure or neglect, to be recovered and paid to the state treasurer pursuant to Kan. Stat. Ann. § 20-2801, and any amendments thereto, the same as other fines and penalties; the action for such penalty being prosecuted by the county attorney, with the state of Kansas as plaintiff, and before any court of competent jurisdiction.
