Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 25-4603

  • Optical scanning equipment: means apparatus designed to examine and detect opaque marks on ballots which represent votes and count and tabulate those votes by electronic methods. See Kansas Statutes 25-4601
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
  • System: means an optical scanning system of automatically counting and tabulating ballots with optical scanning equipment. See Kansas Statutes 25-4601

The secretary of state shall examine and approve the kinds or makes of systems using optical scanning equipment, including operating systems, firmware and software, and no kind or make of such system shall be used at any election unless and until it receives certification by the secretary of state and a statement thereof is filed in the office of the secretary of state.
