Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 28:143

  • administrator: means a person in charge of a treatment facility or his deputy. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 28:2
  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • Patient: means any person detained and taken care of as a person who has a mental illness or person who is suffering from a substance-related or addictive disorder. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 28:2
  • State psychiatric hospital: means a public, state-owned and operated inpatient facility for the treatment of mental illness and substance-related and addictive disorders. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 28:2

            A. The director or administrator of each state psychiatric hospital shall include the costs of maintenance and daily care of patients as an expense of the state psychiatric hospital and shall prepare budgets in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 1 of Title 39 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950.

            B. If financially able, the patient or his legal guardian shall reimburse the state psychiatric hospital for all or a part of the cost of his maintenance or daily care.
