- Patient: means any person detained and taken care of as a person who has a mental illness or person who is suffering from a substance-related or addictive disorder. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 28:2
Any patient continuously absent from a psychiatric hospital without authorized leave for seventy-two hours is automatically discharged and may be readmitted only according to law. This Section shall not apply to clients committed in accordance with La. Rev. Stat. 28:59 or Code of Criminal Procedure Article 648 or 654.
