Terms Used In Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure 872

  • Plea: In a criminal case, the defendant's statement pleading "guilty" or "not guilty" in answer to the charges, a declaration made in open court.

A valid sentence must rest upon a valid and sufficient:

(1)  Statute;

(2)  Indictment; and

(3)  Verdict, judgment, or plea of guilty.
