Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:99.11

  • Bonds: means tobacco bonds and refunding bonds, notes and other evidences of indebtedness issued by the corporation pursuant to this Subpart. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:99.3
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Corporation: means the Tobacco Settlement Financing Corporation created pursuant to this Subpart. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:99.3
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.

The Nineteenth Judicial District Court for the state of Louisiana shall have exclusive jurisdiction and venue of any suit or action of any nature brought by or against the corporation.  Any suit or action to determine or contest the validity of bonds of the corporation shall be brought and conducted only in accordance with La. La. Rev. Stat. 13:5121, et seq.
