Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 56:802

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

The department shall have the duty and responsibility for the management of resources, including water level control, aquatic weed control, and maintenance and repair of dams, control structures, and spillways within the territorial jurisdiction of each commission established in La. Rev. Stat. 56:801, provided that no local commission or authority is providing these services.  The individual game and fish preserves and commissions or local governing authorities shall have the duty and responsibility for maintaining all support services within their territorial jurisdiction, including parks, picnic areas, and concessions.
