- Power of attorney: A written instrument which authorizes one person to act as another's agent or attorney. The power of attorney may be for a definite, specific act, or it may be general in nature. In a military power of attorney, the language granting power with respect to commodity and option transactions empowers the agent to do all of the following:
(1) Buy, sell, exchange, assign, settle, and exercise commodity futures contracts and call and put options on stocks and stock indexes traded on a regulated option exchange.
(2) Establish, continue, modify, and terminate option accounts with a broker.
