  • Adjourn: A motion to adjourn a legislative chamber or a committee, if passed, ends that day's session.
  • Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.
On return of the writ, the court or justice, without delay, shall proceed to examine the causes of imprisonment or restraint, and may adjourn such examination from time to time.
