  • Abandoned ice-fishing shack: means a temporary structure used for ice fishing and left on property not owned by the person owning the structure without permission of the landowner. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 2263
  • Any election: means primary and general elections and referenda, whether regular or special. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Commercial purpose: means for the purpose of economic gain. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 2263
  • Commercial vehicle: means a vehicle owned or used by a business, corporation, association, partnership, or the sole proprietorship of any entity conducting business for a commercial purpose. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 2263
  • container: means any and all packages or containers used for the purpose of containing a product sold or held out for sale for human or animal consumption. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 2263
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • Department: means the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 2263
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • General election: means the regular election of state and county officials occurring biennially in November. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • in writing: include printing and other modes of making legible words. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • lands: includes lands and all tenements and hereditaments connected therewith, and all rights thereto and interests therein. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
  • Litter: includes waste materials resulting from or associated with the use of tobacco products, including, but not limited to, cigarette butts, all waste materials resulting from the outdoor release or abandonment of a balloon and all waste materials resulting from the use of consumer fireworks.   • may: when used in this Title, is used in a permissive sense to grant authority or permission, but not to create duty, to act in the manner specified by the context. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 7
  • Mobile home: means a structure, transportable in one or more sections, which:

  • Mobile home park: means any parcel of land under single or common ownership or control which contains, or is designed, laid out or adapted to accommodate 2 or more mobile homes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 9091
  • Municipal officers: means the mayor and aldermen or councillors of a city, the members of the select board or councillors of a town and the assessors of a plantation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Municipality: means a city, town or plantation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Municipality: includes cities, towns and plantations, except that "municipality" does not include plantations in Title 10, chapter 110, subchapter IV; or Title 30?A, Part 2. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Normal wear and tear: means that deterioration which occurs, without negligence, carelessness, accident or abuse of the premises or equipment by the tenant, members of the tenant's household or their invitees or guests. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 9091
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Person: means any person, firm, partnership, association, corporation or organization of any kind whatsoever. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 2263
  • Political committee: means 2 or more persons associated for the purpose of promoting or defeating a candidate, party or principle. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Right of rescission: Right to cancel, within three business days, a contract that uses the home of a person as collateral, except in the case of a first mortgage loan. There is no fee to the borrower, who receives a full refund of all fees paid. The right of rescission is guaranteed by the Truth in Lending Act (TILA). Source: OCC
  • Security deposit: means any advance or deposit of money, the primary function of which is to secure the performance of a rental agreement for a mobile home, including premises used solely for the storage or display of mobile homes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 9091
  • Special election: means an election other than a regular election. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Tenant: means a mobile home owner who rents a parcel of land in a mobile home park. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 9091
  • Trailer: means any vehicle without motive power, designed for carrying persons or property and for being drawn by a motor vehicle. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 2263
  • United States: includes territories and the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Vehicle: means every vehicle which is self-propelled and designed for carrying persons or property or which is used for the transportation of persons, except motorcycles, farm implements and snowmobiles. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 2263
  • Watercraft: means any type of vessel, boat or craft used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 2263
  • Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
