- Accredited: means an educational institution that is approved by the United States Department of Education or a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521
- Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
- American Sign Language proficiency interview: means a holistic language evaluation that is used to determine global American Sign Language proficiency and that is administered by an educational testing service organization and evaluated by an American Sign Language evaluation service organization recognized by the director. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
- Bureau: means the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2

See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1371 Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant. Conditional license: means a license granted to an applicant who has met the requirements of section 1524?C but who is not certified with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521 Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant. Deaf interpreter: means a person whose sense of hearing is nonfunctional for the purpose of communication, whose primary means of communication is visual or tactile and who provides intermediary interpreting. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521 Deaf person: means a person whose sense of hearing is nonfunctional for the purpose of communication and whose primary means of communication is visual or tactile. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521 Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime. Defense attorney: Represent defendants in criminal matters. Department: means the Department of Public Safety. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521 Director: means the Director of the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation within the department. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521 Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other. Fire sprinkler system: means an assembly of overhead piping or conduits that conveys water with or without other agents to dispersal openings or devices to extinguish, control or contain fire and to provide protection from exposure to fire or the products of combustion, planned in accordance with a national or state standard. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1371 Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another. Hard-of-hearing person: means a person who has a functional hearing deficit, who may or may not primarily use visual communication and who may or may not use assistive devices. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521 Injunction: An order of the court prohibiting (or compelling) the performance of a specific act to prevent irreparable damage or injury. Installation: means the initial placement of a sprinkler system or part of the system or the extension, modification or alteration of a system or part after the initial placement. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521Interpreting: means the process when a linguistic intermediary between a deaf or hard-of-hearing person and another person translates the spoken utterances or signs, gestures or writing of either person into a linguistic form other than that which that person uses as a primary and preferred form of communication. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1521 Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases. License: means the document issued by the commissioner to a contractor authorizing the contractor to engage in the fire sprinkler system business in this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1371 Licensee: includes , but is not limited to, agency liquor stores and certificate of approval holders. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2 Liquor: means spirits, wine, malt liquor or hard cider, or any substance containing liquor, intended for human consumption, that contains more than 1/2 of 1% of alcohol by volume. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72 Person: means an individual, partnership, corporation, firm, association or other legal entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1371 Plea: In a criminal case, the defendant's statement pleading "guilty" or "not guilty" in answer to the charges, a declaration made in open court. Plea agreement: An arrangement between the prosecutor, the defense attorney, and the defendant in which the defendant agrees to plead guilty in exchange for special considerations. Source: Premises: includes the place where an incorporated civic organization sells or serves spirits, wine and malt liquor under a license obtained under section 1071. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2 Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government. Testify: Answer questions in court. Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries. Transcript: A written, word-for-word record of what was said, either in a proceeding such as a trial or during some other conversation, as in a transcript of a hearing or oral deposition. Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence. United States: includes territories and the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72 Victim advocate: work with prosecutors and assist the victims of a crime. Wholesale licensee: means a person licensed by the bureau under section 1401 as an in-state wholesaler.
