  • Denturism: means the process of obtaining denture impressions and bite registrations for the purpose of making, producing, reproducing, constructing, finishing, supplying, altering or repairing a denture to be fitted to an edentulous or partially edentulous arch or arches and the fitting of a denture to an edentulous or partially edentulous arch or arches, including the making, producing, reproducing, constructing, finishing, supplying, altering and repairing of dentures, without performing alteration to natural or reconstructed tooth structure, in accordance with this chapter.   • Denturist: means a person who holds a valid denturist license issued by the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 18302

  • Faculty: means , when used in conjunction with a license issued under this chapter, the authority granted to an individual who is authorized to practice only within the school setting, including any satellite locations approved by the board, and who teaches dentistry, dental hygiene or denturism as part of a clinical and didactic program.   • Fair market value: The price at which an asset would change hands in a transaction between a willing, informed buyer and a willing, informed seller.
  • General supervision: means the supervision of those tasks and procedures that do not require the physical presence of the supervisor in the practice setting while procedures are being performed but do require the tasks and procedures to be performed with the prior knowledge and consent of the supervisor. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 18302
  • Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
  • Humane agent: means an employee of the department who assists in enforcing this Part. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907
  • Humanely trap: means to trap an animal using traps and trapping methods that are designed to avoid injury to animals to the greatest extent practicable for animal control or animal rescue purposes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907
  • Independent practice dental hygienist: means a person who holds a valid license as a dental hygienist issued by the board and who is authorized to practice independent dental hygiene. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 18302
  • Jurisprudence: The study of law and the structure of the legal system.

  • Land surveying: means any service or work involving the application of special knowledge of the rules of evidence and boundary laws, principles of mathematics and the related physical and applied sciences for measuring and locating lines, angles, elevations and natural and man-made features in the air, on the surface of the earth, within underground workings and on the beds of bodies of water.   • Land surveyor-in-training: means a person licensed under this chapter to practice land surveying under the responsible charge of a professional land surveyor. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 18201
  • lands: includes lands and all tenements and hereditaments connected therewith, and all rights thereto and interests therein. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Law enforcement officer: means any person who, by virtue of the person's public employment, is vested by law with a duty to maintain public order, enforce any law of this State establishing a civil violation, prosecute offenders or make arrests for crimes, whether that duty extends to all crimes or is limited to specific crimes.   • Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
  • Limited dentist: means a dentist who has retired from the regular practice of dentistry and who holds a valid license issued by the board to practice only in a nonprofit clinic without compensation for work performed at the clinic. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 18302
  • Livestock: means cattle; equines; sheep; goats; swine; domesticated cervids, fowl and rabbits; members of the family Camelidae, genus lama and genus vicugna; bison; and ratites. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907
  • Local anesthesia: means a drug, element or other material that results in a state of insensibility of a circumscribed area or the loss of sensation in some definite, localized area without inhibition of conscious processes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 18302
  • Mortgage: The written agreement pledging property to a creditor as collateral for a loan.
  • Municipality: means an organized city, town or plantation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907

  • Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.

  • Provisional dental therapist: means a person who holds a valid license as a dental hygienist issued by the board and who is authorized to practice dental therapy under the supervision of a dentist in accordance with this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 18302
  • Public health dental hygiene: means the delivery of certain dental hygiene services under a written supervision agreement with a dentist for the purpose of providing services in a public health setting in accordance with this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 18302
  • Public health dental hygienist: means a person who holds a valid license as a dental hygienist issued by the board and who is authorized to practice public health dental hygiene in accordance with this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 18302
  • Public health setting: means a place where the practice of public health dental hygiene occurs, and includes, but is not limited to, public and private schools, medical facilities, nursing homes, residential care facilities, mobile units, nonprofit organizations and community health centers.   • Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.

  • Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries.

  • Transcript: A written, word-for-word record of what was said, either in a proceeding such as a trial or during some other conversation, as in a transcript of a hearing or oral deposition.

  • Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.
