  • Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Advice and consent: Under the Constitution, presidential nominations for executive and judicial posts take effect only when confirmed by the Senate, and international treaties become effective only when the Senate approves them by a two-thirds vote.
  • Agency: means any office or any place of business of a foreign bank located in any state of the United States at which credit balances are maintained incidental to or arising out of the exercise of banking powers, checks are paid, or money is lent, but at which deposits may not be accepted from persons who are citizens or residents of the United States.   • Agent: means an individual appointed to serve in the capacity of a superintendent. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Board of directors: means the governing body with statutory powers and duties for a school administrative district. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Branch: means any office or any place of business of a foreign bank located in any state of the United States at which deposits are received. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 1311
  • capital: means the sum of common stock, paid-in common stock surplus, perpetual preferred stock, undivided profits and other capital reserves; [PL 1997, c. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Education or the commissioner's designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Public Safety or a designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Community school district: means a state-approved unit of school administration composed of more than one municipality or school administrative district which may provide public education for any combination of kindergarten through grade 12. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Courses of study: means the courses of study for the elementary and secondary schools that are in alignment with the system of learning results as established in section 6209 and consistent with the requirements of this Title. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Department: means the Department of Education. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Department: means the Department of Public Safety. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
  • deposits: includes credit union share accounts. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Display: includes a special effects display. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • District school committee: means the governing body with statutory powers and duties for a community school district. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
  • Federal agency: means an agency of a foreign bank established and operating pursuant to Section 4 of the federal International Banking Act of 1978. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 1311
  • Federal branch: means a branch of a foreign bank established and operating pursuant to Section 4 of the federal International Banking Act of 1978. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 1311
  • Financial institution: means a universal bank or limited purpose bank organized under the provisions of this Title, and a trust company, nondepository trust company, savings bank, industrial bank or savings and loan association organized under the prior laws of this State.   • Fire safety official: means a state or municipal official who has authority to enforce life and fire safety laws, statutes, ordinances, rules or regulations. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Fireworks: means any:

  • Fireworks technician: means a person licensed pursuant to section 231 who, by examination, experience and training, has demonstrated the required skill and competence in the use and discharge of fireworks to conduct a display or special effects display. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Flame effect: means an effect caused by the use of a solid, liquid or gaseous fuel to produce a flame in front of an audience. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Flame effect technician: means a person licensed pursuant to section 231 who, by examination, experience and training, has demonstrated the required skill and competence in the use of flame effects to conduct a display or special effects display. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Home state: means :

  • Host state: means a state, other than the home state of an out-of-state financial institution, national bank or federal association, in which the financial institution maintains a branch or seeks to establish and maintain a branch. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Kindergarten: means a one-year or 2-year childhood education program, for children at least 5 years of age, immediately prior to grade one. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • Liabilities: The aggregate of all debts and other legal obligations of a particular person or legal entity.
  • Maine agency: means an agency of a foreign bank located in this State and established and operating pursuant to the provisions of this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 1311
  • Maine branch: means a branch of a foreign bank located in this State and established and operating pursuant to the provisions of this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 1311
  • Maine foreign bank: means a foreign bank that operates a Maine branch or Maine agency and for which Maine is the home state, in accordance with Section 5 of the federal International Banking Act of 1978. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 1311
  • Maine representative office: means a representative office located in this State and established and operating pursuant to the provisions of this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 1311
  • Majority: when used in reference to age shall mean the age of 18 and over. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Membership: means active participation in the program of a school from the date of enrollment to the time the student withdraws or is absent from the school for 10 consecutive days for reasons other than illness. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 15001
  • Municipal school unit: means a state-approved unit of school administration composed of a single municipality. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Municipality: includes cities, towns and plantations, except that "municipality" does not include plantations in Title 10, chapter 110, subchapter IV; or Title 30?A, Part 2. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Out-of-state: means a foreign country or a state other than this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Parent: means a parent, guardian or legal guardian. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Permit: means the nontransferable permission granted by the commissioner pursuant to section 227?A to hold a display. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Person: means any individual, combination of individuals, association, municipality, amusement park or other legal or commercial entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Possession: means the intentional or knowing possession of what the possessor knows or believes to be fireworks. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Principal: means the person who supervises the operation and management of a school and school property as determined necessary by the superintendent under policies established by the school board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Private school: means an academy, seminary, institute or other private corporation or body formed for educational purposes covering kindergarten through grade 12 or any portion thereof. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Private school approved for tuition purposes: means a private school approved for the receipt of public funds under sections 2951 to 2955. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Proximate audience technician: means a person licensed pursuant to section 231 who, by examination, experience and training, has demonstrated the required skill and competence in the use and discharge of fireworks proximate to an audience to conduct a display or special effects display proximate to an audience. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Public school: means a school that is governed by a school board of a school administrative unit and funded primarily with public funds. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Recess: A temporary interruption of the legislative business.
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
  • Representative office: means any office of a foreign bank that is located in any state and is not a federal branch, federal agency, state branch, state agency or subsidiary of a foreign bank. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 1311
  • School administrative unit: means the state-approved unit of school administration and includes a municipal school unit, school administrative district, community school district, regional school unit or any other municipal or quasi-municipal corporation responsible for operating or constructing public schools, except that it does not include a career and technical education region. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • School board: means the governing body with statutory powers and duties for a school administrative unit. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • School committee: means the governing body with statutory powers and duties for a municipal school unit. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • School union: means a union composed of school administrative units joined for the purpose of providing joint administrative services, including a joint superintendent. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Secondary school: means that portion of a school that provides instruction in any combination of grades 9 through 12. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • sell: means any transfer or delivery of fireworks to a person for consideration. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Service of process: The service of writs or summonses to the appropriate party.
  • Special effects display: includes the indoor use of pyrotechnics before a proximate audience. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 221-A
  • Subsidiary: means a corporation, partnership, business trust, association or similar organization, all of which are referred to in this subsection as "another company" owned or controlled by a financial institution or financial institution holding company. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Superintendent: means the person in a school administrative unit or school union appointed and having the authority and responsibility under this Title and other applicable statutes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Superintendent: means the Superintendent of Financial Institutions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Town: includes cities and plantations, unless otherwise expressed or implied. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Union committee: means the governing body with statutory powers and duties for a school union. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Uphold: The decision of an appellate court not to reverse a lower court decision.
