Terms Used In Michigan Laws 12.42

  • Garnishment: Generally, garnishment is a court proceeding in which a creditor asks a court to order a third party who owes money to the debtor or otherwise holds assets belonging to the debtor to turn over to the creditor any of the debtor
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
   All of the staff, records, files and other property, including property held in trust, belonging to the auditor general with respect to drawing and issuing of warrants and with respect to actions in garnishment shall be transferred to the state treasurer and shall be continued as part of the staff, records, files and property of the office of the state treasurer.
