- Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. As an alternative or in addition to administrative action under section 248h(1) for a violation or alleged violation of section 248h(2), section 249 for a violation or alleged violation of section 249, section 249a(1) for a violation or alleged violation of section 249a(1), or section 249a(2) for a violation or alleged violation of section 249a(2), the secretary of state may, by written agreement with a person that holds the license described in that section, place that license on probation and include conditions of probation in the agreement.
