  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.   (1) Except as provided in subsection (2) and section 812, if an operator’s or chauffeur’s license issued under this chapter is lost, destroyed, or mutilated, or becomes illegible, the person to whom the license was issued may obtain a duplicate upon the payment of the fee required in section 812, upon furnishing proof satisfactory to the secretary of state that the license has been lost, destroyed, or mutilated, or has become illegible, and upon certifying that the license is not being held by a court as a condition of that person’s recognizance. The secretary of state may check the applicant’s driving record through the national driver register and the commercial driver license information system before issuing a license under this section.
  (2) Subsection (1) does not apply if the operator’s or chauffeur’s license is destroyed pursuant to section 625g(1)(b)(iii).
