  • Charitable organization: means a benevolent, educational, philanthropic, humane, patriotic, or eleemosynary organization of persons that solicits or obtains contributions solicited from the public for charitable purposes. See Michigan Laws 400.272
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
   If a local, county, or area division of a charitable organization is directly supervised and controlled by a superior or parent organization, which is incorporated, qualified to do business or doing business within this state, the local, county, or area division is not required to register under section 3 if the superior or parent organization files an application statement on behalf of the local, county, or area division in addition to or as part of its application statement. When an application statement has been filed by a superior or parent organization, it shall file the annual report required under section 14 and 16 on behalf of the local, county, or area division in such detail as required by the rules.
