Terms Used In Michigan Laws 401.4

  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
  • Poor person: means a person who does not have property, exempt or otherwise, and who is unable, because of physical or mental disability or age, to earn a livelihood, or a person who has some means but is eligible to receive relief or assistance granted under Act No. See Michigan Laws 401.1
   The court to which such application may be made, shall proceed in a summary way to hear the proofs and allegations of the parties, and shall order such of the relatives aforesaid of such poor person, as appear to be of sufficient ability and as appear to owe a duty of support under this act, to relieve and maintain such poor person, and shall therein specify the sum which will be sufficient for the support of such poor person, and how it is to be paid.
