  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.    The present great camp of the Knights of the Maccabees of the World for Michigan, incorporated June 11 A.D. 1881 under the act of which this act is amendatory, is hereby declared to be duly and regularly incorporated, capable of suing and being sued, and of holding and transferring property, and to have sole jurisdiction over and control of all subordinate tents heretofore organized or that may be hereafter organized in the state of Michigan and bearing the name or title of the Knights of the Maccabees of the World, subject only to the constitution and laws of the order.
