Terms Used In Michigan Laws 458.12

  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
   The articles of association of any ecclesiastical corporation heretofore incorporated under any general or special act of this state as a Methodist Episcopal Church or as a Methodist Protestant Church in the name of which the word “Episcopal” or the word “Protestant” appears after the word “Methodist” are hereby amended by deleting from the name of each of such corporations the word “Episcopal” or the word “Protestant” as the case may be. Such change in the name of any such corporation shall become operative ipso facto upon the effective date of this act without the filing of any amendment to the articles of association of any such corporation.
