The certificate of registration shall contain upon the face thereof the name of the registered owner of the motor vehicle or trailer, his or her residential mailing address, a description of the motor vehicle or trailer as set forth in the application for registration, and whether alternative fuel was used to propel the motor vehicle and, if so, the type of fuel. The certificate of registration shall have and contain the identical registration number denoted on the license plate in connection with which such certificate of registration is issued and shall be valid only for the registration period for which it is issued. On the back of the certificate, the certificate of registration shall include a statement in boldface print that an automobile liability policy or proof of financial responsibility is required in Nebraska. By paying the required registration fees, every person whose name appears on the registration of the motor vehicle or trailer certifies that a current and effective automobile liability policy or proof of financial responsibility will be maintained for the motor vehicle or trailer at the time of registration and while the motor vehicle or trailer is operated on a highway of this state and that he or she will also provide a current and effective automobile liability policy, evidence of insurance, or proof of financial responsibility for the motor vehicle or trailer upon demand.

Terms Used In Nebraska Statutes 60-390

  • Alternative fuel: includes electricity, solar power, and any other source of energy not otherwise taxed under the motor fuel laws as defined in section 66-712 which is used to power a motor vehicle. See Nebraska Statutes 60-306
  • Automobile: means passenger cars, trucks, utility vehicles, and vans up to and including seven tons. See Nebraska Statutes 60-3,184
  • Automobile liability policy: means liability insurance written by an insurance carrier duly authorized to do business in this state protecting other persons from damages for liability on account of accidents occurring subsequent to the effective date of the insurance arising out of the ownership of a motor vehicle (1) in the amount of twenty-five thousand dollars because of bodily injury to or death of one person in any one accident, (2) subject to the limit for one person, in the amount of fifty thousand dollars because of bodily injury to or death of two or more persons in any one accident, and (3) in the amount of twenty-five thousand dollars because of injury to or destruction of property of other persons in any one accident.   • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Highway: means the entire width between the boundary limits of any street, road, avenue, boulevard, or way which is publicly maintained when any part thereof is open to the use of the public for purposes of vehicular travel. See Nebraska Statutes 60-332
  • Motor vehicle: means any vehicle propelled by any power other than muscular power. See Nebraska Statutes 60-339
  • Owner: means a person, firm, or corporation which holds a legal title of a motor vehicle or trailer. See Nebraska Statutes 60-342
  • Person: shall include bodies politic and corporate, societies, communities, the public generally, individuals, partnerships, limited liability companies, joint-stock companies, and associations. See Nebraska Statutes 49-801
  • Proof of financial responsibility: means evidence of ability to respond in damages for liability, on account of accidents occurring subsequent to the effective date of such proof, arising out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of a motor vehicle, (1) in the amount of twenty-five thousand dollars because of bodily injury to or death of one person in any one accident, (2) subject to such limit for one person, in the amount of fifty thousand dollars because of bodily injury to or death of two or more persons in any one accident, and (3) in the amount of twenty-five thousand dollars because of injury to or destruction of property of others in any one accident. See Nebraska Statutes 60-346
  • Registration period: means the period from the date of registration pursuant to section 60-392 to the first day of the month following one year after such date. See Nebraska Statutes 60-3,184
  • State: when applied to different states of the United States shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories organized by Congress. See Nebraska Statutes 49-801
  • Trailer: means any device without motive power designed for carrying persons or property and being towed by a motor vehicle and so constructed that no part of its weight rests upon the towing vehicle. See Nebraska Statutes 60-354
