1.  The boards of county commissioners shall have power and jurisdiction in their respective counties:

  • county: includes Carson City. See Nevada Revised Statutes 0.033
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • person: means a natural person, any form of business or social organization and any other nongovernmental legal entity including, but not limited to, a corporation, partnership, association, trust or unincorporated organization. See Nevada Revised Statutes 0.039
  • Personal property: All property that is not real property.
  • Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.

(a) To purchase any real or personal property necessary for the use of the county.

(b) To lease any real or personal property necessary for the use of the county.

2.  No purchase of real property shall be made by a board of county commissioners unless the value of the same has been previously appraised and fixed by one or more competent real estate appraisers selected by the board from the list of appraisers established pursuant to NRS 244.2795. The person or persons selected shall be sworn to make a true appraisement thereof according to the best of their knowledge and ability. Purchases of real property from other federal, state or local governments are exempt from such requirement of appraisement.
