Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 261:157

  • Department: shall mean the department of safety of the state of New Hampshire. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:19
  • Motor vehicle: shall mean :
    I. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:60
  • Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
  • United States: shall include said district and territories. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:4
  • Vehicle: shall mean :
    I. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:122
  • Veteran: means any person who:
    (1) Served in the United States armed forces for more than 4 years and continues to serve; or
    (2) Has been discharged or released from duty in the United States armed forces with:
    (A) An honorable discharge; or
    (B) An uncharacterized discharge based on a service-connected injury, illness, or disability. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:50
For the initial set of plates, no fee shall be charged for a permit to register a motor vehicle owned by a veteran of any war or armed conflict, as defined in N.H. Rev. Stat. § 72:28, V, who because of being an amputee or paraplegic or having suffered loss or use of a limb from a service-connected cause, as certified by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, has received said vehicle from the United States government or cash settlement in lieu thereof; or because of a disability incurred in, or aggravated by such service, and upon satisfactory proof that the veteran is evaluated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to be totally and permanently disabled from such service-connected disability.
