- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- magistrate: includes any judge, municipal magistrate or officer or other person having the powers of a committing magistrate. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. A person who at any time alters, disfigures or changes in any manner, or loans or transfers to another, a license or button or tag issued under this article, gives false information or makes any misrepresentation to the clerk or agent to whom application is made for a license hereunder, or who violates any provision of this article for the violation of which a penalty is not herein otherwise provided, shall be liable to a penalty of not less than $25.00 nor more than $50.00 for each offense, and upon conviction the license and button or tag issued to him, if any, shall be revoked by the court or magistrate before whom the conviction is secured. The court or magistrate shall send the license and button or tag marked “revoked,” to the office of the division, and any license issued to a person whose license has been revoked during the year for which the license was issued shall be void. A person who shall fail or neglect to perform a duty imposed on him by this article shall be liable to a penalty of $20.00 for each failure. No penalty fixed by this section shall apply to an offense which is a misdemeanor under this article.
