Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 30:1AA-2

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 2. For the purposes of this act, a “developmental disability” means:

a. A severe, chronic disability of a person which

(1) Is attributable to a mental or physical impairment or combination of mental or physical impairments;

(2) Is manifest before age 22;

(3) Is likely to continue indefinitely;

(4) Results in substantial functional limitations in three or more of the following areas of major life activity: self-care, receptive and expressive language, learning, mobility, self-direction, capacity for independent living, or economic self-sufficiency; and

(5) Reflects the need for a combination and sequence of special, interdisciplinary, or generic care, or other services which are of lifelong or extended duration and are individually planned and coordinated.

b. Other disabilities requiring services and treatment similar to that required by those who meet the criteria defined above.
