Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 30:4-131

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
30:4-131. A person refusing or failing to obey a summons issued pursuant to section 30:4-129 of this Title may, if application be made to the Superior Court, be brought before such court and after summary hearing may in the discretion of the court be held in contempt of court for refusal or willful neglect to obey the summons. Such contempt may be purged on such terms as the court may impose.
