Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 30:4-53

  • Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
  • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
Nothing in this title shall impair the right of the state, or any political subdivision to return a patient to a foreign country or to another state wherein he retains a legal settlement, and in all such cases no legal settlement shall be deemed to have been acquired within this state.
