Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 30:4-57

  • Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
  • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
If the patient shall be found to be mentally ill and to have no legal settlement in any county in this State, the court may commit him to a mental hospital owned by the State.
