Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 44:4-100

  • County welfare board: means the board of a single county authorized to have charge, supervision and control of a county welfare-house and the administration of the settlement and relief of the poor for such county and to supervise through a director of welfare such work for or in relation to the poor as directed or authorized.   • Poor person: means a permanently disabled person who is without means of support as defined above. See New Jersey Statutes 44:4-1
Upon application for the relief of a poor person the county welfare board shall ascertain if possible the relatives chargeable by law for his support and proceed to obtain their assistance or compel them to render such assistance as is provided by law.
