Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 44:4-12

  • Bequest: Property gifted by will.
  • Devise: To gift property by will.
  • Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
  • May: shall be construed to be permissive. See New Jersey Statutes 44:4-1
  • Welfare-house: means a place where the poor are maintained at the public expense under the superintendence of a county welfare board in any county. See New Jersey Statutes 44:4-1
The board of chosen freeholders may accept and hold in trust for the county any grant or devise of land, or any gift or bequest of money or other personal property, or any donation to be applied, principal or income or both, for the benefit of the welfare-house, and apply the same in accordance with the terms of the gift.
