Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 44:4-35

  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • County welfare board: means the board of a single county authorized to have charge, supervision and control of a county welfare-house and the administration of the settlement and relief of the poor for such county and to supervise through a director of welfare such work for or in relation to the poor as directed or authorized.   • Director of welfare: means an employee of a county welfare board with authority to act for it and under its direction, and to act for and in lieu of overseers where there are none, and perform the functions of and replace the office of overseer. See New Jersey Statutes 44:4-1
The county welfare board shall fix the salaries of the director of welfare and such other officers, assistants and employees within the limits of the appropriation made therefor by the board of chosen freeholders, and such salaries shall be compensation in full for all services rendered.
