Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 44:4-7
- May: shall be construed to be permissive. See New Jersey Statutes 44:4-1

- Welfare-house: means a place where the poor are maintained at the public expense under the superintendence of a county welfare board in any county. See New Jersey Statutes 44:4-1
The board of chosen freeholders may erect all necessary buildings, make all necessary improvements and repairs, and alter any existing building for the use of the welfare-house, but the plans for such work shall first be approved by the state board and the state board of health.
