Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 44:4-86

  • County welfare board: means the board of a single county authorized to have charge, supervision and control of a county welfare-house and the administration of the settlement and relief of the poor for such county and to supervise through a director of welfare such work for or in relation to the poor as directed or authorized. See New Jersey Statutes 44:4-1
  • Devise: To gift property by will.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. The county welfare board shall:

a. Investigate every application for relief;

b. Supervise by periodic visitation every person receiving such relief;

c. Devise ways and means for bringing persons unable to maintain themselves to self-support; and

d. Keep full and complete records of such investigation, supervision, relief and rehabilitation.
