Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 44:7-3

  • Assistance: means money payments to or on behalf of eligible persons. See New Jersey Statutes 44:7-1
  • Old age assistance: means assistance to aged needy persons as provided by this chapter, and, unless otherwise indicated, includes all programs of assistance for other specified classes of persons authorized to be administered by or through the county welfare boards. See New Jersey Statutes 44:7-1
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
Subject to the provisions of this chapter, every needy person, sixty-five years of age or upwards, residing in this State, and otherwise qualified as hereinafter set forth, shall be entitled to old age assistance. All persons wishing to make application for old age assistance shall have opportunity to do so and assistance shall be furnished with reasonable promptness to all of such persons who are found eligible.
