Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 44:7-34

  • Assistance: means money payments to or on behalf of eligible persons. See New Jersey Statutes 44:7-1
  • Old age assistance: means assistance to aged needy persons as provided by this chapter, and, unless otherwise indicated, includes all programs of assistance for other specified classes of persons authorized to be administered by or through the county welfare boards. See New Jersey Statutes 44:7-1
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
A person sixty-five years of age or more not receiving old age assistance under this chapter is not by reason of his age debarred from receiving public relief and care under the provisions of any other law, but no recipient of old age assistance, while receiving the same, shall receive any other assistance from the state or any political subdivision thereof except for medical and surgical care.
