Terms Used In New Mexico Statutes 1-18-3
- President pro tempore: A constitutionally recognized officer of the Senate who presides over the chamber in the absence of the Vice President. The President Pro Tempore (or, "president for a time") is elected by the Senate and is, by custom, the Senator of the majority party with the longest record of continuous service.
- Presiding officer: A majority-party Senator who presides over the Senate and is charged with maintaining order and decorum, recognizing Members to speak, and interpreting the Senate's rules, practices and precedents.
The ratification convention shall be composed of each member of the state legislature. The convention shall meet in the chamber of the house of representatives and, where applicable, the rules of the house of representatives shall govern the proceedings of the convention. The lieutenant governor shall be the president of the convention and shall be the presiding officer.
He shall be assisted in his duties by the speaker of the house of representatives and the president pro tempore of the senate.
