Terms Used In North Carolina General Statutes 58-71-15

  • Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.

Each and every surety for the release of a person on bail shall be qualified as:

(1)        An insurer and represented by a surety bondsman or bondsmen; or

(2)        A professional bondsman; or
