  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
  • Verdict: The decision of a petit jury or a judge.

If the special judge does not submit the verdict within the time period provided by § 151.011, the court may grant a new trial if:
(1) a party files a motion requesting the new trial;
(2) notice is given to all parties stating the time and place that a hearing will be held on the motion; and
(3) the hearing is held.
