Terms Used In Texas Code of Criminal Procedure 13A.554

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

An offense under § 841.085, Health and Safety Code, may be prosecuted in:
(1) any county in which an element of the offense occurs; or
(2) the court that retains jurisdiction over the civil commitment proceeding under § 841.082, Health and Safety Code.
