No apprentice agreement under this article shall be effective until approved by the Director. Every apprentice agreement shall be signed by the employer, or by an association of employers or an organization of employees as provided in § 2.2-2052, and by the apprentice, and, if the apprentice is a minor, by the minor’s parent, provided that if both parents are dead or legally incapable of giving consent or have abandoned their children, then by the guardian of the minor.

Terms Used In Virginia Code 2.2-2050

  • Apprentice: means a person at least 16 years of age who is covered by a written agreement with an employer and approved by the Director. See Virginia Code 2.2-2043
  • Director: means the Director of Workforce Development and Advancement. See Virginia Code 2.2-2036
  • Employer: means any person or organization employing a registered apprentice, whether or not such person or organization is a party to an apprenticeship agreement with a sponsor. See Virginia Code 2.2-2043
  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
